How To Make Beef and Broccoli
Step One: Sauce
Start by mixing up the sauce so that it is ready when you need it. Whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, pepper flakes, cornstarch, and beef broth. Set it aside until later.
Step Two: Beef
Next, mix up two tablespoons of cornstarch, water, and garlic. Add the sliced flank steak and stir to coat.
Now, heat two tablespoons of oil in a frying pan. Cook the beef for 3-4 minutes until cooked through, stirring often. Remove the beef from the frying pan and set it aside.
Step Three: Veggies
Use the same pan to cook the sliced broccoli and onion wedges. Stir fry until tender.
Step Four: Combine
Once the veggies are tender, add the cooked steak and the prepared sauce mixture. Cook and stir for 3-5 minutes, until thickened.
Serve the beef and broccoli over rice and then head back outside to enjoy the wonderful spring weather!
Beef and Broccoli Recipe FAQs
1) What other cuts of beef can I use to make this?
I recommend using a flank steak or skirt steak.
2) Wondering what to cook with beef and broccoli? I would suggest serving the beef and broccoli over rice or noodles. For sides try making an Asian salad, egg rolls, steamed vegetables, potstickers or cream cheese puffs.
3) Is beef and broccoli gluten free? As long as you use a gluten free soy sauce and beef broth, the rest of the ingredients should be gluten free but always check the labels to be sure.
4) What can I add to make this spicier? I would suggest adding more red pepper flakes or some sriracha sauce. On the other hand, you can leave the red pepper flakes out if you don’t want any heat.

Has anyone used frozen broccoli for this recipe?
Sue says
This was absolutely delicious. Only change I made was using fresh ginger. It has a nice little bit of heat to it without overpowering the dish. Nice sauce!

I would have to say that this is as good as it looks. I made the beef and gravy minus the broccoli. Wow!!

I tried your recipe, and it is delicious. I made it twice last week. Thanks for sharing.

For people with Celiac Disease, this is not gluten free. Beef broth and soy sauce both contain flour. For me though, it sounds delicious.
Tonia says
Hi Jen, May I ask where you read that it was gluten free? I don’t typically delve into food allergies since I don’t have all of the information I would need to make those claims. Was it possible another website like Pinterest that said it was gluten free? Pinterest automatically adds it’s own tags and descriptions to recipes based on the ingredients. Warmly, Tonia
Val says
Both beef broth and soy sauce are available in gluten free versions. I actually substitute liquid aminos for the soy sauce when cooking for my son who has celiac.

Made the Beef & Broccoli last night and there was none left for lunch today! That’s usually a good sign that it was pretty good! Been trying to take some of the weekly meals off my wife since she went back to work full time. Your site has given me several and they’ve all been good and easy to prepare. I will probably hold out the broccoli a bit longer next time as we prefer to eat it on the crunchy side. Other than that it was very good. Thanks for the help.

forgot to add that I used finely grated fresh ginger.
